Wearing an old new Skirt in two ways

An old block-printed skirt that I have come to love because of the two days I spent with it after it waited its turn to be worn for years. This is khadi cotton set with hand block prints, the skirt a wrap-around straight skirt and the top a sleeveless black top with the same prints.

There are always a few pieces in our closets that we buy thinking we'd have many occasions to wear it, look a certain way and get the ultimate use out of it. Well, this skirt was, or shall I say coord set which was such a purchase. I bought this co-ordinates set way before co-ords were a hot thing, from Dakshinapan Kolkata.

People of Kolkata would know that it's THE place to go if you want hip vibes that have a touch of theatre nostalgia. You know what I mean? well, maybe not. But this is a very unique thing to the city, this vibe. There are so many great things I have purchased here, one of them being this bolero, which I styled and posted about years back! This was bought around the same time.

2024 for me has been all about wearing what I have or supplementing what clothing I already have to create looks and supplementing with unique finds! I have been forcing myself to wear the clothes that I already own but end up not wearing them because of one excuse or the other.

I finally got the courage to wear it on my trip to Kochi. And dare I say, I wore it with a confidence that people would understand the aesthetics I was aiming for.

And I aimed for two aesthetics.

One with the co-ord set with the skirt being a draped silhouette and one with a crochet top with the block prints of the skirt on display.

For the first and second look both, the shoes and bag were the same, and the styling changed a bit.

Like I explained in my post about the vintage skirt of my dreams, I don't like to carry a whole lot of clothes on vacation.

I played around with the accessories mostly.

With look 1, I went for natural jewellery, by natural I mean jewellery made out of natural materials such as seeds and clay. The necklace and earrings I am wearing were bought from a village flea market, from a nice old lady's stall who was selling items made out of seeds.

For look 2, I aimed for a more modern look with gold earrings and a statement cuff. Kept everything very simple otherwise.

Which look do you prefer?

I was very comfortable in the Kochi heat, in both outfits, thankfully it rained a bit on the day I wore the second look, so I was delighted with it.

What is it that you opt for when travelling to hot and humid places, do you take old new clothes out for such occasions or do you keep forgetting?
